GED® Testing Now Available in Logansport

When Landmark Adult Learning Center was closed in June of 2010, Logansport, Cass County and the surrounding area was left without a GED testing center.  Persons wanting to take the GED test had to travel out of county to find a testing center.

It is with great pleasure that Cass-Logansport Educational Attainment Resource (C.L.E.A.R.) announces that it has been named an Official GED Testing Center by the GED Testing Service.  This is great news for those persons from Logansport and Cass County as they can now take the GED test locally.

GED Tests were first developed during World War II to help returning veterans finish their high school studies and reenter civilian life. The GED Tests first became available to civilians in 1947. Logansport has been a testing center since the mid 1970’s.

GED is a trademarked acronym used for the General Educational Development Tests, a battery of examinations used to measure the skills and knowledge similar to a high school course of study. The five subject area tests which comprise the GED test battery are Mathematics; Language Arts, Reading; Language Arts, Writing (including essay); Science; and Social Studies.   GED graduates earn a GED credential. The type of credential issued in Indiana is a GED Diploma.

Those passing the GED Tests have demonstrated a level of knowledge equal to or greater than40% of graduating high school seniors.  The GED credential is widely accepted since 95 percent of U.S. colleges and universities accept GED graduates who meet their other qualifications for admission and about 96% of U.S. employers accept the GED credential as equal to a traditional high school diploma.

The GED Tests cannot be taken online. Information may be available on the Internet about the tests or preparing for the tests, but the official tests are only available at an Official GED Testing Center.  In Logansport and Cass County, students can prepare for and take the GED test at the Cass-Logansport Educational Attainment Resource at 2815 E. Market Street, former site of Ivy Tech. The test is available in both English and Spanish.

Registration, including the testing fee of $60, must be completed prior to testing. For the test schedule and additional information, please contact CLEAR at (574)721-3155 .
