LMU offers tips for reporting potential power outages

Community

Bob Dunderman, distribution manager for Logansport Municipal Utilities, offers the following tips for LMU customers in the event of potential power outages.

• If a customer of LMU is without power they should call LMU at (574) 753-6231 to report the outage. LMU will take their name, phone number, and address at that time and once power is restored we will call them back to verify that each customer has power. This helps us to determine how many customers are out and that we don’t assume that power was restored to everyone.

• For those customers that count on power for medical needs they should call family or local agencies for help during this time. LMU will work on the areas with the most outages and continue on to the localized outages

• You might get a busy signal during a major event but keep trying. We want to hear from everyone without power.

• If you encounter downed trees or power lines please stay away from them. The power lines can still be energized while laying on the ground. Move away and call LMU at (574) 753-6231 with location of downed lines.

• The major factors for frozen pipes would be the length of time your residence is without power and the outside temperature. Days without electricity and really cold temps are not a good combination for water pipes. Having backup plans for such an emergency is crucial to protect your homes. Backup generators and wrapping water pipes are a few things that can be done to help protect you during a extended outage.
