New event will focus on agriculture business in Cass County
Walton, Indiana – Cass County Farm View, a new event for 2011, organized by the Cass County Ag Council, a committee of the Logansport/Cass County Chamber of Commerce, and Purdue Cass County Extension will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., just south of Walton, IN at the Eshelman Family Farm located next to State Road 35.
This fun event for the whole family will feature an interactive water shed learning center conducted by the Cass County Soil and Water, a live petting zoo hosted by the Caston High School FFA, plus exciting exhibits by New Holland, Tri Green Tractor, LLC, and many other local agribusinesses and producer groups.
According to Brian Shafer, IOM, President/CEO of the Logansport/Cass County Chamber of Commerce, “Agriculture based business is the largest business sector in Cass County and we believe it is important to celebrate that fact. We want to let the public know how important agriculture is to our local economy, plus how farming here is still family owned and operated. We basically want to give families a chance to spend some time down on the farm.”
Volunteers from multiple organizations have pulled together to bring this exciting event sponsored in part by local businesses like The Andersons, Inc., Cole Hardwood, Beacon Credit Union, Pepsi Cola Bottling of Logansport and more. “Without our local businesses supporting great collaborative efforts such as this one, we would not be able to offer the community an opportunity to learn more about the vast diversity in agriculture today. We really would like to offer our gratitude to North Central Co-Op, First Farmers Bank & Trust, Pioneer Seeds, Logansport Savings Bank, Community State Bank and New Holland for their contribution in taking this event from conception to a reality.” Ken Smith, The Andersons, Clymers Ethanol.
“We are so thankful to the Eshelman family for allowing us to hold this fun and educational event at their modern, state-of-the-art farm, located right behind the Koch Plant just south of Walton. Farm View will be an exciting event for the whole family from the time you arrive and take a wagon ride pulled by a local antique tractor combine to the time you sit down for a tasty pork burger at lunch. Families will have a hands on learning experience inc about animal care to sitting in the cab of a gigantic tractor or explains Tamara Ogle, Purdue Cass County Extension Educator.
The event is Saturday, August 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., just south of Walton on US 35 across the railroad tracks on County Road 800S. Follow the Pepsi Banners. Parking will be located in front of the Koch Plant. This is a free event for the whole family. Beverages and food extra.
