Frequently Asked Questions - Recycling & Trash Disposal

Appliances (white goods) containing CFC gas require special disposal procedures. This includes refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers. Call the Logansport Street Department to safely remove the gasses for a small fee. Each item must have a gas removal certificate attached to it before disposal. Other white goods (including stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters) will be picked up for city residents at no additional cost by contacting the Street Department at (574) 753-4610.

The Cass County Solid Waste District normally holds an Electronic Waste Collection Day — E-Waste Day -- on the third Saturday in May. Check CassCountyCalendar.com for details. Contact the Cass County Solid Waste Management office at (574) 753-9253 for more information.
Waste Management has opened an electronics recycling bin at the Oak Ridge Recycling Facility which is open five days a week from 6 a.m. - 3 :30 p.m. A lot of smaller electronic items are free, but there is a charge of $15 for a TV or computer monitor due to the cost of recycling them. Visitors must stop at the office but disposal after that is relatively easy.
Other options include giving working television sets to  charities or someone who needs them, or checking with stores that sell TVs to see if they will take them back. A computer check on your favorite search engine will likely give you a list of those stores.

Large household items such as sofas, beds, tables, mattresses, extra trash bags or other items too large to fit into the trash toter with the lid down will require a $1 refuse sticker.  
Carpet and padding must be cut into pieces of approximately 4-foot lengths, bundled and no single item can weigh more than 50 lbs. Each bundle must have a $1 refuse sticker affixed to it.
The $1 refuse stickers may be purchased at both of the Marsh Supermarkets, Martin’s Supermarket, Wal-Mart, Arone Hardware and McCord’s Do It Best.

The Cass County Solid Waste Management district accepts this during specified R-Days and Household Hazardous Waste Day (Tox-Away Day). Contact the Cass County Solid Waste Management office at (574) 753-9253 for more information.

Call the Cass County Solid Waste District at (574) 732-9253 for assistance locating dealers that will take your tires at a reasonable price.

Leaves, grass, plants, flowers, small trimmings, and small twigs are to be placed in a 2-ply, biodegradable, 30-gallon kraft paper bags and placed at the regular pick up site for pickup beginning April 1st. No yard waste will be picked up in plastic.

A Recycling Day (R-Day) is held on the first Saturday of February, April, June, August, October and December at Riverside Park in Logansport from 9 a.m. until noon. R-Days will be hold in Royal Center at Pioneer Elementary on the second Saturday of February, April, June, August, October and December from 9 a.m. to noon.
There is no charge for this service.

Items like paint, antifreeze, oil, brake fluids,, and other hazardous materials found in your garage, basement or home are accepted during this event, which is usually held in the fall. Paper, glass, plastic, aluminum and bi-metal (tin) cans are accepted at the following sites:

  •  Pioneer Elementary School in Royal Center
  •  Walton
  •  Galveston
  •  Cass County 4-H Fairgrounds

Effective January 4, 2012,  recycling is no longer accepted at Tall Sycamore Campground. Dumping can result in a fine of up to $2,500.
