GET TO KNOW: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cass County

Last Updated on January 10, 2016 by cassnetwork

We want people to know about all the great things our community has to offer, so we’re inviting every business, organization and program in Cass County to be featured on Cass County Online.  All you have to do is tell us about yourself.

Today’s featured organization is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cass County.

We are a nonprofit that matches at-risk youth in Cass County with positive role models.  These professionally supported matches encourage positive decision making, as they develop healthy relationships.

In 2016 Big Brothers Big Sisters will have been in Cass County for 35 years.  It all started with a Reverend who saw a need for positive role models in our community.  With the help of United Way of Cass County we were able to establish ourselves as a quality mentoring program.

We would like people to know the impact that our organization has on children in Cass County.  We are always seeking positive role models to match with our kids.  Having a positive role model has been proven to decrease the use of drugs and alcohol, decrease aggressive behavior, increase self-esteem, and raise the likelihood that a child will graduate from high school.

We would love for people to donate their time, talent, or treasure to our organization!  You can do this by making monetary or in-kind donations or by volunteering to be a Big or assist us with our monthly events.

We currently have 2 employees.  Stacia Peters is the Executive Director and Julia Hesse is the Program Coordinator.  We currently have 10 board members and 31 Bigs.

We are working together with other non-profits to make Cass County a wonderful place.  We take pride in our program and in our ability to professionally support our matches.  By matching our at-risk kids with positive role models we feel the possibilities are endless for the success of both the Bigs and Littles!
