MONDAY, MAY 7: Five things to know and five upcoming events

Here’s a quick roundup of some things you might want to know for Monday, May 7, 2018:

TWO MORE DAYS TO VOTE IN THE PRIMARY

Tuesday, May 8 is Indiana’s Primary Election Day. If you are a registered Cass County voter and want to vote in the Primary:

The Cass County Government Building (Courthouse) will be open for early voting from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 7.

Cass County Vote Centers will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8. A registered Cass County Voter may vote at any one of the following vote centers:

  • Logansport Community School Corporation Administration Bldg
  • Cass County Senior Center
  • Walton Fire Station
  • Galveston Community Center
  • Royal Center Town Hall
  • Twelve Mile Fire Station
  • Cass County 4-H Fairground Community Center

If you expect to be confined due to illness or injury or you expect to be caring for a confined person at a private residence on Election Day, or if you are a voter with disabilities who believes the polling place is not accessible, or if the voter is physically unable to complete the ballot and sign the affidavit on their own, you can vote absentee-by-traveling board. The ballot will be delivered to you by a bipartisan absentee voter board who will be able to assist you with your ballot. To vote by travel board, you must submit an application to the Cass County Clerk’s Office by noon on Monday, May 7, 2018. More information is available at vote.co.cass.in.us.

We’ll be posting election results on CassCountyOnline.com as they come into the Cass County Clerk’s Office after the polls close at 6 p.m. on May 8.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, CITY COUNCIL TO MEET

The Cass County Commissioners will hold their first regular meeting of the month at 1 p.m. Monday, May 7 in the Commissioners Hearing Room on the 2nd floor of the Cass County Government Building. See the meeting agenda here.

The Logansport City Council will hold their May meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 7 in the City Council Chambers on the 3rd floor of the Logansport City Building, 601 E. Broadway. One of the items on the agenda —  a proposed rezone of property located at the northwest corner of 24th and Market Streets near B&K East is expected to draw a large crowd. DONATIONS FOR WALTON MATCHING FUNDS ACCEPTED THRU MAY 8

The Cass County Community Foundation is helping to raise the $100,000 needed locally for the proposed new Walton Community. CCCF is offering up to $25,000 in matching dollars at a rate of 50 cents for each dollar donated through Tuesday, May 8. As of Saturday, the community had contributed $26,933.41, which CCCF will match with $13,466.71. The donation period began on May 1.

All gifts must be new and made to the Cass County Community Foundation and marked for the Walton Community Building Project. Donations may be made in person, via U.S. Postal Service or through the CCCF website at www.casscountycf.org. Find more info here.

PROPERTY TAXES DUE THIS WEEK

The spring installment of property taxes is due on Thursday, May 10, 2018. Payments can be made in person at the Cass County Treasurers Office, located in room 104 of the Cass County Government Building. A dropbox is located on Court St. on the southeast side of the Cass County Government Building. More information is available at co.cass.in.us.

INFORMATIONAL MEETING FOR BASIC KINDERGARTEN AND BERRY PRESCHOOL

According to information posted on Fairview Elementary School’s Facebook page, an informational meeting regarding Basic Kindergarten and Berry Preschool will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 in the library at Landis Elementary. Those who have a child turning 4 years old by August 1 are invited to attend.

Berry Preschool (held at Columbia Elementary) is a full day program for students turning 4 years old by August 1st.

Basic Kindergarten is a half day program that is held at Fairview and Landis Elementary Schools. Students also must be 4 years old by August 1st.

Registration for the programs will take place on May 29, 30 and 31 at Landis and Fairview.
