Memorial Day Events & Closures

In honor and recognition of all of our fallen service members, the Congress, by a joint resolution approved May 11, 1950, as amended (36 U.S.C. 116), has requested the President issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe each Memorial Day as a day of prayer for permanent peace and designating a period on that day when the people of the United States might unite in prayer.  The Congress, by Public Law 106-579, has also designated 3:00 p.m. local time on that day as a time for all Americans to observe, in their own way, the National Moment of Remembrance.

Flags are to be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon on Monday, May 27.

Federal, state and local government offices, including LMU, will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of the holiday.

Cass County’s Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27 at the Logansport City Building. Lineup will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the public and all military veterans are invited to participate. The parade route will include brief programs at the City Building, Cass County Government Building on 4th Street and the 6th St. Bridge. The parade will then travel to the Civil War monument in Mount Hope Cemetery for a brief program, followed by a brief program at Legion Circle in Mount Hope Cemetery.

All trash tote and recycling collection for City of Logansport residents will be pushed back one day. Monday routes will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday routes will be picked up on Wednesday, Wednesday routes on Thursday, Thursday routes on Friday and Friday routes on Saturday. All Indiana BMV branches will be closed Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Branches will resume regularly scheduled business hours on Tuesday, May 28. You are able to complete transactions online or find a 24-hour BMV Connect kiosk near you when branches are closed.

Post Offices will be closed Monday, May 27 but you can drop letters or cards into a blue collection box or bring them inside the Post Office and place in the lobby drop slots.
