Mary Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Ditmire

Mary Kathleen ‘Kathy’  Ditmire, age 81, Logansport, passed away peacefully at 10:55 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021, at HealthPark Medical Center, Fort Myers, Florida.

Born September 7, 1939, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Joseph and Robbie Jones Burns.

On May 25, 1963, she married L. Joseph Ditmire, who preceded her in death on March 11, 2002.

Kathy graduated from Grass Creek High School in 1957 and Ball State University in 1961. She was an elementary school teacher in the Logansport School Corporation.

She had been employed until recently as the receptionist at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Kathy was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority, and Logansport Art Association. She was an active and well-known member of the Logansport community.

Surviving are a son-in-law, Ken Boultinghouse, Dana Point, California; sister, Angela Moss, Kokomo; life-long best friend, Kay Murhling, Rochester; special friend, Jan Blackburn, Logansport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her son, Jeffrey J. Ditmire and daughter, Jill A. Ditmire, preceded her in death. Also preceding in death are brother-in-law, Walter Moss; nephews, Christopher Miles and Joseph Miles.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for both Kathy and Jill at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, at All Saints Catholic Church, with Fr. Kyle Neterer officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County Community Foundation – Ditmire Family Scholarship Fund , PO Box 441, Logansport 46947. Envelopes will be available at the church.

The family has requested that COVID restrictions apply and masks are required.

Jill A. Ditmire

Jill A. Ditmire, age 56, Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 31, 2021, in her residence.

Born April 9, 1964, in Logansport, she was the daughter of L. Joseph and Mary Kathleen Burns Ditmire.

Jill was a graduate of Logansport High School. 

According to a February 1, 2021 story in the Indianapolis Star, “The 1986 Butler University graduate was a journalist in the Midwest for 25 years, and played host to WFYI’s “Curious Mix,” “Indiana Outdoors” and “The Good Life.”  She also anchored WFYI’s “All Things Considered” program. 

Ditmire, a wine and food connoisseur, brought much knowledge to her broadcasting and local news career by authoring the “Wine Scene” column for the Broad Ripple Gazette and “Vintage Point” for the IndyStar. An American Wine Specialist-certified wine judge, Ditmire was the former owner of the Mass Ave. Wine Shoppe and Cafe in downtown Indianapolis. She was once a finalist in the Pillsbury Bake-Off.

Prior to her work at Indianapolis’ NPR-affiliate, Ditmire had a long history in local anchoring and reporting across the Midwest, including WTTV, ARTV, ALFI, WJBK, WTHR, WISH and the Ford Motor Company News Network.”

Surviving are a brother-in-law, Ken Boultinghouse, Dana Point, California; aunt, Angela Moss, Kokomo; and numerous cousins.

Her father, L. Joseph Ditmire; brother, Jeffrey J. Ditmire; uncle, Walter Moss; and several cousins, preceded her in death.
