Wednesday, June 19, 2024 is a federal holiday.

According to the Pew Research Center:

“Juneteenth is a combination of the words June and nineteenth. It commemorates the day more than two months after the end of the Civil War – and more than two years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation – when enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom.”

Post Offices will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. There will be no mail delivery to street or Post Office Box addresses, except for Priority Mail Express. All services will resume on Thursday, June 20.

Federal government offices and many banks will be closed Wednesday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.

All Area Five offices will be closed Wednesday, June 19, 2024 in honor of Juneteenth. They will reopen Thursday, June 20 at 8 a.m.
