James R. Cowan, 81, of Elwood, went home to be with the Lord at 12:19 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2025, with his family by his side.  Jim was born April 19, 1943, in Crawfordsville, Indiana to Ralph W. and Julia L. (Alexander) Cowan.  He married the love of his life, Patricia Huckstep on August 10, 1963, in Jamestown, Indiana and she survives.

Jim worked for Prudential Life Insurance for many years as an agent.  He had also worked for Cabot Corp, Chrysler, and in his later years Bowden’s Florist in Kokomo.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 – 1966.  Jim loved the Lord and served in his Church in many capacities such as Elder of the church and being a part of the First Impressions Greeting Team.  He also enjoyed participating in many church cantatas, singing in the choir, helping with vacation bible school and heading up the Thanksgiving dinner at the church.  In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and watching the Indianapolis Colts and the Purdue Boilermakers play ball.  Jim was a member of Chapel Hill Christian Church and the Marine Corps League in Kokomo.  He was also a former member of the Lion’s club.

Surviving family include his wife Pat Cowan of Elwood, his children, James W. Cowan and wife Aubrey and Anita M. Myers and husband Jeff; his grandchildren include, Zach and Colleen Myers, Jeremy and Whitni Myers, Cody and Allison Myers, Lauren and Jonathan Dawes, Marissa and Wesley Beattie, Taylor Cowan, Allison Cowan and Bethany Cowan.  Great grandchildren include Kolton, Emma, Atlanta, Emerson, Katelynn, Olivia, Westin, Dawson and Paisley.  Jim is also survived by one sister, Judith Robinson and nephew, Matthew Carver.   He is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Chapel Hill Christian Church, 2600 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, Indiana with Pastor Steve Allen officiating.  A time of visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until service time at the Church.   Jim will be laid to rest in Marion National Cemetery with Military Honors.   Memorial contributions made be given to Chapel Hill Christian Church or Indy Honor Flights in Jim’s memory.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cowan family. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
