Registration is open for a 10-week training program offered by Ivy Tech Community College that prepares students for certification in the advanced manufacturing skills needed to succeed in the high-growth, technical jobs of the 21st Century. The program will run four days a week from April 27 to June 30.

The Certified Production Technician (CPT) course, offered under the auspices of the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC), will meet in Kokomo. Students who pass the following four manufacturing-related modules achieve CPT certification:

Manufacturing process and production

Quality and continuous improvement

Maintenance awareness

The MSSC program is an industry-led training, assessment and certification system focused on the core skills and knowledge needed by the nation’s production workers. Based on federally endorsed national standards, it offers current and potential production workers the opportunity to demonstrate that they have mastered the skills needed for advanced manufacturing jobs.

“This training is applicable to all sectors of manufacturing,” said Brent Marley of Ivy Tech’s Corporate College. “More and more, employers are looking for employees whose skills have been tested and certified through the MSSC program. The Certified Production Technician certification is an industry-recognized credential that can open doors to good-paying, high-tech jobs.”

Employers also can benefit by allowing current employees to upgrade and certify their skills through this program, Marley added.
