KOKOMO, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo Region – which includes campuses and instructional sites in Kokomo, Logansport, Peru, Wabash, Rochester and Tipton – celebrated its 2015 commencement Saturday, May 9. Hundreds of family members and friends gathered as the College conferred a total of 1,126 degrees and certificates.
Michelle Simmons, president of Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Campus, said the annual commencement ceremony is an opportunity to recognize the graduates for their many accomplishments and to acknowledge the support of family and friends who helped make those accomplishments possible.
“These degrees and credentials represent years of study and sacrifice and effort,” Simmons said. “I speak for the Ivy Tech faculty and staff when I say we are incredibly proud of what these students have done to prepare themselves for the challenges of the future. This is a day for all of us to celebrate the power of education.”
Also honored during Saturday’s ceremonies were honorary degree recipients Stephen J. Daily, chancellor emeritus of Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Region, and Greg Goodnight, mayor of the City of Kokomo; Josh Rockey of Peru, associate professor of Communication and department chair of the region’s University Transfer Division, recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Instruction; Chris Stepp of Kokomo, adjunct instructor in Communication, recipient of the Gerald I. Lamkin Award for Excellence in Instruction; Greg Aaron of Kokomo, a 1979 Ivy Tech graduate who now serves as Kokomo Region’s executive director of Finance, recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award; and graduating students Tyler Yeakley of Galveston, recipient of the Chancellor’s Award; and Alisha Boyd of Logansport, Mimi Ford of Kokomo and Parker McAdams of Peru, recipients of the Dr. Pam Lewis Award for Academic Excellence.
