Lincoln 8th grader selected to Indiana Junior High Allstate Band

Last Updated on December 6, 2015 by cassnetwork

Logansport Bands is proud to announce that 8th grade trumpeter Luke Fincher has been selected to the Indiana Junior High Allstate Band.  The last Logansport Band student to achieve Allstate status was Connor Kinnaman, as a baritone player, when he was a senior at Logansport High School in 2013.

Luke is the son of Lauren and Dutch Fincher and is in the 8th grade.  He has been studying trumpet with local trumpet teacher (and Rochester educator) Dave Danhuaser since he was in the 3rd grade.

Luke is in the band at Lincoln MS and previously was at All Saints Catholic School.

The Indiana Bandmasters Junior High Allstate Band was created in 2009, as the need was identified that younger students needed a venue to be recognized, and to challenge them to achieve in the highest caliber of band that was available to students of their age.  The Indiana High School Allstate Band(s) (there are two) has a very long history of superlative performing groups.   Stephen W. Pratt, Director of Bands at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, will be conducting.

To be selected, Luke had to apply for the Indiana Bandmasters All-Region Honor band (he has been selected for that twice) and prepare some selected musical excerpts that he had to record.  This recording was then vetted at the regional site in Rossville and then sent to be judged along with recordings from across the entire state of Indiana.  Luke is one of only 13 trumpet students from grades 7-9 to be chosen from the whole state of Indiana.  This is an enormous honor.

Luke will get to travel and rehearse with other high achieving students from across the state for two days.  The band will then perform during the Indiana Music Educators Convention at the historic Embassy Theater in downtown Fort Wayne on January 16 at 9:30 am.
