Jay Downs, 62, of Logansport, passed away at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, June 26, 2016, in his home, surrounded by his family, following a hard fought battle with cancer.Born November 23, 1953, in Peru, he was the son of the late John L. and Wilma Jean (Moss) Downs.
On November 4, 1989, in Logansport, he was married to Janiene Samuels Downs, who survives.
Jay was a graduate of Logansport High School. He was employed at Secondary Metal Processing.
A Christian who was strong in his faith to the end, Jay was a member of the Spring Creek Christian Church. Jay loved his family, his job and time spent both relaxing and working in his backyard.
Surviving with his wife are six children: Doris Bowen of Idaho, Amy Downs of Logansport, Deanna (Jim) Anders of Greentown, Jon (Daphne) Hayes of Florida, Katrina (Nik) Sloan of Muncie and Steven (Amber) Downs of Logansport; five brothers: Bill Downs of San Diego, CA, Kevin (Kerrie) Downs of Kentucky, Kent and Terry Downs both of Logansprot, John Downs of Fort Wayne and Frank Downs of South Carolina; three sisters: Rose (Dean) Smith of South Carolina, Linda Downs and Joy Hamilton both of Logansport; twenty grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Downs and JR Hettinger.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Jay Downs will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Ray Bean officiating.
A visitation will be held from noon Saturday until the time of the service.
