bicentennialThe only Logansport area girl ever to be chosen Indiana Miss Basketball has become the latest recipient of a local award.

Whitney Jennings, the 2014 Indiana Miss Basketball, has been named the Logansport Bicentennial Citizen of the Week. After completing a storied career at LHS, Whitney played for the University of Iowa Lady Hawkeyes for two years before announcing her intentions to transfer to Butler University.

“What Whitney accomplished in Logansport was really something to behold,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “She is a living testament to the notion that you can become something really special through hard work, dedication and setting high standards for yourself, and you can do it as well in Logansport as you can anywhere else. She is a terrific role model. She made everyone around her better and she defined excellence for girls basketball in the North Central Conference for her generation, and maybe longer.”

Whitney’s family was honored earlier this year with the Spirit of the Community Award presented by the mayor at the annual State of the City/County Luncheon. Her father, Doug, was a member of the Argos High School Final Four team that played in the one-class basketball tournament. Her brothers and sisters also have been successful student/athletes at Logansport High School.

She will receive an Indiana state flag and a certificate from the Mayor’s Office. The award is presented weekly during 2016 to recognize local residents or natives who have brought state or national recognition to Logansport.
