INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Education announced the recipients of the Dual Language Immersion Pilot Program grant on Wednesday. The Indiana Dual Language Immersion Pilot Program provides grants to school corporations that establish or expand dual language immersion programs in Mandarin, Spanish, French, or other languages approved by the Department.
“I am excited to announce this year’s recipients of the Dual Language Immersion Pilot Program grant,” said Glenda Ritz, Indiana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction. “Programs like these expand opportunities for our students and allow them to learn in an environment that few Hoosiers get to experience. Today’s grant recipients have created innovative and sustainable plans that focus on providing high-quality instruction while following a student-centered approach to learning.”
Dual Language Immersion Pilot Program grants provide for the establishment of new Dual Language Immersion programs as well as the expansion of an existing program. To qualify, a program must provide fifty percent of its instruction in English and fifty percent of its instruction in a second language and begin in either Kindergarten or Grade 1.
This is the second year of the two-year Dual Language Immersion Pilot program. Today, five schools received funding to continue an existing program while three schools are receiving funding for the first time.
The following Indiana school corporations have been awarded the Dual Language Pilot Program grant for 2016-17. Corporations with an asterisk are first time grant recipients:
