This Weekend in Cass County for Independence Day 2016

Here’s a look at what’s happening this Fourth of July weekend in Cass County, Indiana. Listen with the link above.

UPDATE: As of Sunday, afternoon, the FREE concert scheduled at Little Turtle Waterway will be held at McHale Performing Arts Center. Sparrow 5 will perform at 6 p.m. followed by the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30.

Also, the Tower Park Pool will be open Monday, July 4 from noon to 6 p.m. Free admission.

The Uke-On Ukulele Extravaganza at the State Theatre on July 2 will feature acts from Logansport, Indianapolis, Chicago and St. Louis. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door, and kids 12 and under get in free. The show starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, and there’s also a free, ukulele only open mic from 6 to 7:30 Saturday at The Record Farm.

On Sunday, you can catch an expanded version of the weekly Summer Sundown Music Series at Little Turtle Waterway. Sparrow 5, a local folk rock group, will perform at 6 p.m., then at 7:30 p.m., the Cass County Bicentennial Committee presents the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra on the Cass County Community Foundation Stage. The Lafayette Symphony Orchestra will perform a variety of pops and patriotic tunes, highlighting Indiana themes and songwriters at 7:30 p.m. at McHale Performing Arts Center. It’s all free.  and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to enjoy the evening.

Independence Day festivities get underway Sunday, July 3 in Twelve Mile, with a community church service Sunday morning at the fire station. A 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament begins at 4 p.m. at Plank Hill Park, followed by the Variety Show at 7:30, with a free hog roast sponsored by Corinth Brethren Church. Fireworks will begin at dusk Sunday in Plank Hill Park in Twelve Mile.

On Monday, refreshments will be available from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. at the Twelve Mile Community Building. The Parade begins at 11:30. Noon is the deadline for additional mower entries to be registered for the Twelve Mile 500 lawnmower race. The National Anthem and flag raising will happen at 12:45 Monday in Plank Hill Park. The Briggs Race, Super Stock Race and Rookie Race are scheduled to begin at 1 o’clock and the modified race is scheduled to start at 2:30 Monday, July 4. Admission to the Twelve Mile 500 is $5 for adults, $1 for kids ages 6-10 and free for kids 5 and under.

July 4th events in Walton include the firecracker run at 8 a.m. and the 5K run at 8:15 a.m. Register online at walton5K.com. Parade lineup begins at 1 at Lewis Cass HS, with the parade stepping off at 2 p.m. There will be vendors throughout the day, and the Walton Fire Department Car Show and Fish Fry begin at 4. Fireworks begin at dusk on Monday in Walton. The Tipwa Tractor Show is also taking place July 1st through 4th in Walton.

A full day of Independence Day activities is also planned Monday at Riverside Park in Logansport. One Warrior, with the Logansport Parks department, will sponsor a Fourth of July Military Appreciation Cookout Monday at the Old Carousel Building in Riverside Park, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Float in canoes from Spencer Park or Adamsboro to Riverside Park during the Firecracker Float, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s a free will donation,with proceeds benefiting One Warrior.

A wide variety of food vendors will be available (at Riverside Park) from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Cass County Carousel will be open from 1-9 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Jason McKeever performs from 5-7 p.m., Monday, followed by the band Scarecrow from 8-10 p.m.

The presentation of the American Flag by American Legion Post #60, with the Star-Spangled Banner, will be at 10:00 p.m., and a fireworks display from the north side of the river will begin at 10:10 p.m. on Monday, July 4 at Riverside Park.

One more thing that’s happening in our area this weekend is a chance to see the American Veterans Traveling Tribute at Indiana University Kokomo through July 4.
