The Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay is one of the signature events of the year-long celebration of the state’s 200th anniversary.

The Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay is designed to “inspire and unify Hoosiers,” who will also “symbolically ‘pass the torch’ connecting generations to ignite our future.”

The relay began in Corydon, in Harrison County, on Sept. 9 and will conclude in Indianapolis on Oct. 15.

It is patterned after the Olympic Torch Relay, passing through all 92 counties, covering approximately 97 miles per day.

The Cass County Bicentennial Torch Relay will be held on Friday October 7, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Cass County’s Bicentennial Coordinator, Lisa Terry, says people are urged to watch and celebrate this historical event as it travels the following route:

Highway 24 West, outside of Burnettsville, through Logansport to Miami Ave
South on 3rd Street to Market Street to 6th Street to Broadway
North on 3rd Street, West on Miami Avenue and then North on Highway 35 to the Pulaski County line.

“This is not a parade, but a procession with Indiana State Police assisting,” Terry says.

Nominations for torchbearers were accepted through January.

County fourth graders, who study Indiana history, will be bused to various locations to celebrate the event.

Banners, flags and signs can encourage the local torch bearers as they travel thru the county.
