Logansport Police Department requesting public’s assistance

The Logansport Police Department is requesting assistance from the public in locating a wanted subject allegedly involved in the Oct. 9, 2016 shooting in the 100 block of 10th St. in Logansport.

On Oct. 9, 2016, at 1:26 a.m., Logansport Police Officers responded to a call of a man that had been shot in the 200 block of Wheatland Ave. Upon officers’ arrival, they located the victim, identified as Jose Manuel Salas, 41, with two gunshot wounds. Officers also observed several gunshots on the driver’s door and driver’s side front fender on Salas’s vehicle. The victim was able to tell officers on scene that he had been shot while he sat in his vehicle in the 100 block of 10th St. The victim stated  that after he was shot, he drove to his residence in the 200 block of Wheatland Ave. and called 911 to report the shooting.

Just after Logansport officers arrived on scene at Wheatland Avenue, dispatch advised of shots fired in the 100 block of 10th St. Cass County Sheriff Deputies responded to this call as Logansport officers were tied up on Wheatland Ave. Upon deputies’ arrival on 10th Street, they located several 9 mm shell casings laying in the middle of the roadway.

On Oct. 11, 2016, Logansport police obtained an arrest warrant for the suspected shooter in this incident. He is identified as 18 year-old Orlando G. Azpeitia. He is described at 5’1″, 130 lbs, black hair and brown eyes. The arrest warrant was issued through Cass County Superior Court 2 and is for Attempted Murder (Level 1 felony) and dealing methamphetamine (Level 5 felony).
