bicentennialA recipient of the Margaret Newby Retired Teacher of the Year Award has been recognized as the Logansport Bicentennial Citizen of the Week.

Marla Sellers, who was honored at a luncheon sponsored by the city, taught at Franklin Elementary School for 34 years. During her career, she was a nominee for Indiana Teacher of the Year. Sellers retired three years ago and remains active in education, teaching adult students.

“Marla is a super example of someone who embodies the concept of lifetime learning and its importance,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said. “Her commitment to education is a statement to us all that she has more to contribute and she’s not finished yet. As adults face more changes in the workforce and new jobs evolve, we need people like her to provide the education the next generation of employees will need.”

Sellers received a certificate from the mayor and Indiana state flag.

The Bicentennial Citizen of the Week is presented through Indiana’s bicentennial year to honor the contributions of local residents who have been recognized statewide.
