Shooting incident at 10th and North Streets

At 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 9, 2016, Logansport police officers were sent to the 200 block of Wheatland Ave. in reference to a male subject that had been shot.
Upon arrival, they found the victim, identified as Jose Manuel Salas, 41, who suffered from gunshot wounds.
At 1:26 a.m., dispatch advised of a call at 10th and North St. of possible shots fired in the area. Cass County Sheriff Deputies responded to this call, as the LPD officers were on the call at Wheatland Ave.
After speaking with the victim in the 200 block of Wheatland Ave, he was able to tell officers that the shooting occurred in the area of 10th and North St.
The victim stated that he was in his vehicle at that location when another vehicle pulled up and a passenger in the other vehicle asked him what he was waiting on. The victim stated that a person in the other vehicle began firing rounds into the victim’s vehicle. It is believed the victim was struck 2-3 times by the rounds fired. He stated that the suspect vehicle sped away and he was able to drive from that location to his residence on Wheatland Ave., where he called 911.
The victim was transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital where he was flown out.
Cass County sheriff deputies who answered the call to 10th and North St. in reference to shots fired notified Logansport officers that they located spent or empty shell casings in the roadway on 10th St, just north of North St, which is the 100 block of 10th St.
Logansport officers responded to that location. Eight empty shell casings were located in the roadway in the 100 block of 10th St.
The victim and a witness described the suspect vehicle as a black, dark green or dark blue Dodge, possibly a Stratus.
