bicentennialA name most associated with the City of Logansport not only in Indiana, but nationwide will receive a special Indiana Bicentennial honor from the city.

Actor Greg Kinnear has been named by Logansport Mayor Dave Kitchell as the Logansport Indiana Bicentennial Citizen of the Year. Kinnear, who was born in Logansport in 1963, starred in several movies. His credits include “As Good as It Gets”, “Sabrina”, “Invincible” and a recent box office hit, “Heaven is for Real”.

“Greg Kinnear has never been shy about calling Logansport, Indiana his hometown,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “He may be the most famous person ever to come from Logansport, but his career in entertainment continues to be one that people in his hometown watch with a certain interest because he and his family were part of our community.”

Among Kinnear’s local ties was his late aunt, Burldene Bickel, who operated a toy and bicycle shop in Logansport for several decades. She also spearheaded a community youth drive to beautify Logansport that includes flower boxes on the bridges. Today, Logansport is known throughout the state for its overflowing flowers all over the city.

“The Bickels and the Kinnears are among our most cherished Logansport legends,” Kitchell said.

Kinnear will receive an Indiana state flag, a proclamation and a certificate from the city.

Throughout 2016, the city has recognized local residents or natives who have recognized statewide, nationwide or worldwide.
