Downtown Logansport churches and Christian owned and operated businesses are invited to display a sacred symbol of the upcoming holiday season a week from this Friday.
Mayor Dave Kitchell is asking downtown congregations along the Light Up Logansport Parade route on Friday, Nov. 25, to display luminaria sacks. The mayor is challenging local congregations and Christian-owned businesses to come up with 200 luminaria.
“Our bicentennial year is an appropriate time to reflect on the traditions of our Indiana heritage,” the mayor said. “For Christians, the true light in the season is the entrance of the Christ child into the world. While the parade encourages the secular observance of the Christmas holiday, for many, the holiday is both sacred and secular. For millions, that day will be ‘Black Friday’ because of the retail significance as the first shopping day of the Christmas season. For those in Logansport who have a personal faith, luminaria represent a light through a darkness.”
The Light Up Logansport Parade will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25 in downtown Logansport.
