bicentennialThe first person ever to win an individual state championship in Logansport athletic history is being honored with a city award.

Bill Moore, a Logansport High School graduate, won the state pole vault title in 1942. He went on to compete collegiately in prestigious track and field events.
Bill’s sons later competed in the same event while students at LHS.

He is this week’s recipient of the Logansport Bicentennial Citizen of the Week Award.

“In Bill Moore, generations of Logansport residents have known a true gentleman who served in city and county government for several years as zoning administrator,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “When Bill took on that responsibility, it was still relatively new in our community at a time when Logansport had comprehensive planning and many other communities did not. He cleared that threshold of the unknown for the city and we’re grateful to his service and his loyalty to Logansport. He also was a Republican who served Democrats and Republicans alike with the same treatment, and that’s a quality that in many areas of our country today that is lacking.”

Moore will receive an Indiana Bicentennial Citizen of the Week Award certificate and an Indiana state flag. Recipients are being honored throughout Indiana’s bicentennial year for statewide, nationwide or worldwide honors or achievements.
