Logansport Community School Corporation would like to announce a progressive change for the 2017-18 school year!
Beginning with a district-wide strategic planning process involving many stakeholders in 2015, a decision has been made for Columbia Middle School to house all 6th grade students and Lincoln Middle School to house all 7th and 8th grade students.
A very thorough feasibility study was done on buildings, staff and resources. Future considerations on building use will be based on student needs and programming.
Community meetings will be held early in 2017 to share information with the community.
This change will allow for several advantages in curriculum and instruction. Some of these include but are not limited to:
• Expanding high school programming in the 7th and 8th grade
• Consolidation of band and choir programs
• Environmental change for 6th graders
• Transitioning to department model; department chairs will oversee
• Formalize high ability programming for 5th and 6th grade
• More opportunity for teacher collaboration
• Expansion of Century Career Center classes for high school credit in middle school
• Consistency in curriculum and instruction across grade levels
• Additional space afforded to elementary buildings in order to expand programming (Dual Language Immersion, Basic Kindergarten, etc.)
