KOKOMO, Ind. — Registration is open for a spring session of Ivy Tech Community College’s 12-week training program in welding in Logansport. The hands-on training begins Feb. 20.

The American Welding Society (AWS) Gas Metal Arc (MIG) Welding course prepares students for testing to earn certifications required for gainful employment as a welder. The class will meet from 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Feb. 20 to May 9 in the welding lab at Ivy Tech’s Logansport Campus, 1 Ivy Tech Way.

The 96-hour program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills in various gas metal welding (GMAW) processes including micro wire, flux-core, inner shield, and submerged arc with emphasis on metal inert gas welding. The course is designed for beginning to intermediate welders and fabricators and those seeking welder certification. It will cover techniques of welding in all positions on various thicknesses of metal with emphasis on safe practices in gas metal arc welding.

In addition, this course will prepare students to take nationally recognized AWS certification exam(s), depending on each student’s skill level, with early certification possible. Certification exams will be conducted by a certified welding inspector and successful students will receive a Qualified Welding Certification Card.  Cost of the course is $2,600.
