Myers named Logansport ‘Citizen of the Week’

A Logansport native who accomplished a rare feat in his musical career is this week’s Logansport Citizen of the Week.

Steve Myers, a Logansport High School graduate, received the state’s top two high school instrumental honors. He was named to both the Indiana All-State Honors Band and the Indiana All-State Orchestra.

He is the son of former Logansport residents Dan and Vicki Myers.

Mayor Dave Kitchell said out of the thousands of Indiana musicians who will be competing in music contests this winter, only a handful ever accomplish what Myers did.

“It’s something that few people may realize, but having known his private instructor, it’s not surprising,” Kitchell said. “He accomplished the same feat himself.”

Myers’ private instructor was Tim Miller, who like Kitchell, was a member of the Indiana All-State Band in 1976. Miller, who now resides in New Orleans, taught privately while still a high school student and has since been a contracted percussion instructor for several high schools.

Myers will receive a certificate from the Mayor’s Office and a gift certificate to a Logansport restaurant.

The Citizen of the Week recognizes Logansport residents, natives and former residents for their achievements and contributions.
