A current member of the Logansport Housing Authority Board has been reappointed and a new member of the board has been appointed.

Chad Higgins, who has served as board president, will serve another four-year term. His current term expires Feb. 26. Higgins is employed with Logansport Savings Bank.

David Schmidt of Logansport Memorial Hospital will serve a four-year term on the board. He succeeds Bob Ehle, who recently relocated to Missouri. Schmidt is a Chicago area native who served as the downtown manager of the former Salin Bank & Trust branch. He received a fine arts degree from Northern Illinois University. His new term begins Feb. 27.

“The financial background both Chad and David have is a great help to the authority board,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today after appointing both men. “The board has done an effective job of addressing the backlog of applications we need and we hope the board we have in place will continue to serve the portion of our community who relies on federal Housing and Urban Development assistance.”

Kitchell said the authority is among several partners his administration has identified to address housing issues that include affordable housing, blight elimination, new home construction, multi-family dwellings, financing, historic preservation and tax credit housing.

“Our housing stock is a key component of economic development because people may work at a business for eight hours a day, but they spend more time at their place of residence. We need to continue to develop safe, sustainable neighborhoods that expand our tax base.”
