LOGANSPORT, Ind. — Parents of area high school seniors are invited to a Parent Night at Ivy Tech Community College’s Logansport Campus to learn more about possibilities for their student’s life after high school. The session is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at the campus at 1 Ivy Tech Way (Ind. 35 at 18th Street).
“A college education is a huge investment – and not just in money,” said Marcia Worland, executive director of Marketing & Communications for Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Region. “It’s also an investment of the time and effort the students puts into attending class and studying, transitioning from high school to college-level coursework and expectations, and for many, living away from home for the first time. Parents can help their children make good decisions by knowing all the options – including community college.”
Parent Night will include these topics:
- Welcome to Community College: An overview of what Ivy Tech offers
- Paying for College 101: Tips, tricks, strategies to minimize student debt
- Start Here. Go There: Transfer options for those pursuing bachelor’s degrees
- Accelerated Associate Degree (ASAP): Complete a two-year Liberal Arts degree in 11 months
- Dual Credit: Putting to use the Ivy Tech credit your student is already earning
Participants will be able to apply for admission and have an opportunity to tour the Logansport campus. Faculty and staff will be on hand to answer questions.

Discussing the time and money needed for a college education, Worland noted, “Parents and their seniors have a lot of big decisions to make to be sure the investments they make pay off. It’s critical that they know and understand all their options.
“These Parent Night programs are designed to give parents the information they need to guide their children to choose options that are the right fit – financially, academically and socially.”
At Ivy Tech, available options range from short-term certificate programs that move grads right into the workforce, to degrees and credits that transfer to four-year colleges, to courses as a visiting student in the summer to stay on track for on-time completion and save money at another school. The Parent Night offers an opportunity to explore the options right here in local communities — at Indiana’s community college.
“And if your student is saying, ‘I’m taking a year off,’ it’s even more reason to attend!” Worland added, noting the importance of postsecondary education, at any level, to success in the workforce.
