A former Logansport teacher who has started a new business downtown is recognized with a special city honor.

Scott Johnson opened Legacy Outfitters, which is adding a coffee shop to its plethora of offerings on Sixth Street downtown. Johnson has transformed a former auto parts store into a retail mecca.

“What Scott has done is entrepreneurial,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said Friday in announcing he had been named Citizen of the Week. “Legacy Outfitters has quickly become a downtown magnet because of its many attractions, and that bodes well not only for him, but for other businesses downtown.”

The mayor said Johnson is a terrific role model for local residents who transition from one career to another successfully, and fill a community void in the process.

“People like Scott are the reason many people come to Logansport and why local residents will buy local here,” the mayor said.

The Citizen of the Week is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes Logansport natives or residents who contribute to the community or are recognized for their achievements. Recipients received a certificate of appreciation from the city and a $20 gift certificate.
