Skaggs chosen ‘Citizen of the Week’

Logansport has won more high school basketball games in the past four years than at any time since the period known as “The Golden Years” of LHS athletics from 1958-61.

That speaks well of Logansport Coach Pat Skaggs, who today has been named the Logansport Citizen of the Week. He has led the Berries for the past four seasons, all of which resulted in at least 15 wins. This year’s team recorded 16 wins en route to a winning record in the rugged North Central Conference.

“Coach Skaggs played in the North Central Conference when he was in high school in Anderson, and he is a good fit for our program,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “Most importantly, he has proven that Logansport cannot only compete in the NCC, but win it outright, and that has set the bar higher for upcoming generations of future Berries as well as our community.”

The mayor said a true testament to Skaggs’ coaching prowess was showcased in last week’s Lafayette Sectional when the Berries battled No. 7 Zionsville to the finish and had a chance to win the game in regulation before falling in overtime. Zionsville went on to easily win the Lafayette Sectional and will play this weekend in the Logansport Regional at the Berry Bowl.

The Citizen of the Week is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes Logansport natives or residents who contribute to the community or are recognized for their achievements. Recipients received a certificate of appreciation from the city and a $20 gift certificate.
