Sue Jones Tourney returning to AIM-High Park in July 2018

Last Updated on March 1, 2018 by cassnetwork

Team entries are now being accepted for the second annual city-sponsored softball tournament July 14-15, 2018.

The Sue Jones Tournament will be held at Aim-High Park, and honors local athletic legend Sue Jones. The former Logansport teacher, coach and softball player will be 92 this summer.

Tournament Coordinator Bob Peconga is hoping to secure slots for a 26-team field with 72 games over the two-day period. No gate fee will be charged so that girls of all ages and Sue Jones’ former students and players can visit with her.

The team fee is $90 and net proceeds will go to a scholarship fund established in her name. Umpires will be donating $100 each. Several teams have already committed to participate.

Although the league concession stand will be closed, vendors interested in serving at the event can contact the Mayor’s Office or Peconga. The Mayor’s Office can be reached at 574-753-2551. Peconga can be contacted at 574-721-4549. The e-mail addresses for the mayor and Peconga are dkitchell@cityoflogansport.org and rpeconga@yahoo.com.

If the field is filled, an estimated 1,600 people will fill the park complex.
