ISP Major Recognized for 1.1 Million Safe Driving Miles

Indianapolis – Recently, Indiana State Police Lt. Colonel Matt Bilkey recognized Major Ed Schroder for 1,100,000 safe driving miles with the Indiana State Police Department. Schroder was presented a certificate and a uniform pin honoring his accomplishment.

Major Schroder is currently the north zone commander for the Indiana State Police. The north zone consist of the Indiana State Police posts at Lowell, Lafayette, Peru, Toll Road, Ft. Wayne, and Bremen. Schroder oversees approximately 350 police and civilian personnel who work from those posts.

Prior to his promotion as major, Schroder served approximately 12 years as the captain of the Indiana State Police’s Area I. The Indiana State Police posts at Peru, Lafayette, and Lowell make up Area I.

Schroder began his career in December of 1987 at the Indiana State Police Peru District, where he patrolled primarily in Cass County. Schroder has served as a corporal, a first sergeant, and as a lieutenant for the district. Additionally, Schroder worked as a problem oriented policing sergeant and served 13 years on the Indiana State Police Underwater Search and Rescue Team.

Schroder is a graduate of DePauw University and has completed the Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command. He is also a graduate of the 189th session of the FBI National Academy. Major Schroder and his wife, Kim, have three sons and reside in Cass County.

Troopers are recognized for crash free miles at 50,000, 150,000, 250,000, 350,000, and 500,000 intervals. Troopers are then recognized at 100,000 mile intervals after the initial 500,000 miles safely driven.
