PROPERTY TAXES DUE TODAY
The first installment of property taxes is due on Thursday, May 10. Payments can be made in person at the Cass County Treasurers Office, located in room 104 of the Cass County Government Building. A dropbox is located on Court St. on the southeast side of the Cass County Government Building. More information is available at co.cass.in.us.
LOGANSPORT STATE HOSPITAL HOLDING MUSEUM OPEN HOUSE
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States, the Logansport State Hospital will hold an open house at the Longcliff Museum from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 10 and Thursday, May 17.
The museum, located in the former Administration Building of the hospital, is staffed by volunteers interested in preserving the hospital’s legacy of treating citizens with mental health disorders.
The Logansport State Hospital has offered care to thousands of Hoosiers since 1888.
The museum’s two floors showcase items used in treatments at the hospital dating back to 1888. Photographs and historical documents are displayed in over a dozen rooms, complementing the furniture, medical equipment, clothing and supplies displayed throughout the building.
WALTON COMMUNITY CENTER FUNDRAISING TOTALS ANNOUNCED
The Cass County Community Foundation has announced that volunteers raised more than $81,000 for the proposed new Walton Community Center during a fundraising effort that ran from May 1 – May 8. The Cass County Community Foundation will match those funds with $25,000 for a total of $106,079.41 as of noon Wednesday.
The amount fulfills the local match necessary to apply for a Community Development Block Grant.
Donations are still being accepted and any additional funds will be earmarked for the proposed playground adjacent to the new community center.

GIRLS STEM SUMMER CAMP OFFERED AT IVY TECH KOKOMO
Gearing Up Girls for STEM, a new program to be offered this summer at Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo, is aimed at middle school girls interested in expanding their scientific knowledge – and having fun while they do it.
Presented by Ivy Tech, in partnership with the FCA US Transmission & Casting Women’s Group, the two-day camp sessions will offer hands-on experiences in physics, biochemistry, engineering, biology, aerodynamics, advanced manufacturing, and virtual reality. Students will participate in activities ranging from hardness testing to polymers, density and emulsification to velocity and trajectory, sound and sound waves to batteries and circuits.
The camp is open to girls going into the sixth to eighth grades. Two sessions of the two-day camp are being offered: June 4 and 5 or June 7 and 8, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both sessions, in Ivy Tech’s Automotive Technology building at 1942 E. FREE GRANT WRITING WORKSHOP SCHEDULED FOR MAY 15
A FREE grant-writing workshop will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday May 15 at the Cass County Community Foundation building, 729 E. Market Street and will last less than one hour. The workshop is free and will explain the requirements for organizations to apply for the 2018 Competitive Grants and the requirements for a new Opportunity Grants Program designed to accommodate grant requests of less than $5,000.
Deanna Crispen. CCCF President stressed that, “we are urging all non-profit organizations who intend to apply to have a representative at the workshop. While attendance is not mandatory, changes have been made in the application process and funding levels available.” Space is limited so those planning to attend must call CCCF at 574-722-2200 for reservations.
Grant applications may be picked up at the CCCF office, 729 E. Market Street, downtown Logansport, or downloaded from the Foundation website (www.casscountycf.org) after the workshop. The deadline to return completed grant applications is by 5:00p.m. Tuesday June 26, 2018.
