TODAY IS ELECTION DAY
Tuesday, May 8 is Primary Election Day in Indiana.

If you are a registered Cass County voter you can vote at any one of the following locations, which will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today:

● Logansport Community School Corporation Administration Building
● Cass County Senior Center
● Walton Fire Station
● Galveston Community Center
● Royal Center Town Hall
● Twelve Mile Fire Station
● Cass County 4-H Fairground Community Center

IU KOKOMO TO CELEBRATE RECORD NUMBER OF GRADUATES

A record 658 graduates will be celebrated at Indiana University Kokomo’s Commencement today.

IU President Michael A. McRobbie will preside over the ceremony for the Class of 2018, which represents 36 Indiana counties, four states, and 11 countries. Thirty-six percent of the class is first generation college students, and 18 are graduating with 4.0 GPAs.

Forty-nine students are earning master’s degrees, 597 are earning their bachelor’s, and 12 will receive associate degrees. Some students earned more than one degree.
Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke will present the graduating class at 1 p.m. in the Kokomo Event and Conference Center, 1500 N. Reed Road. A celebration reception will be held on campus in Alumni Hall immediately following the ceremony, for graduates and their families.

Kokomo native Robert Knowling, who rose from an environment of poverty to lead Fortune 500 companies, will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree during the ceremony. Knowling currently is chair of Eagles Landing Partners, a strategic management consulting company. The privately held company focuses on enabling executives to embrace and lead transformational organizational change.

COUNCIL GIVES INITIAL APPROVAL TO REZONE OF LAND NEAR B&K

At last night’s meeting, the Logansport City Council voted 6-1 to approve the first reading of a rezone of a piece of property west of B&K East. The request for a rezone was initiated by B&K East owner Mark Selvio, so that all three parcels he owns would be zoned the same: neighborhood business.. The council will vote on the second reading of the ordinance at their June meeting. The Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a public hearing at 4 p.m. May 21 at the request of the developer purchasing the property. Local officials say Burger King is looking at relocating and building a new store on the property.

IVY TECH TO PRESENT HONORARY DEGREES:

KOKOMO, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo Service Area will present honorary degrees two north central Indiana leaders – Rita Jackson of Peru and Joe Reed of Logansport – in recognition of their many contributions to the College and their communities. The honorary Associate of Science in College and Community Service degrees will be presented at the Ivy Tech Kokomo commencement set for 6:30 p.m. May 11 at the Kokomo Event & Conference Center.
