STATEHOUSE – A bill sponsored by State Sen. Randy Head (R-Logansport) to improve the tracking of youth in adult court was recently ceremonially signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb.
House Enrolled Act 1228 requires the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute to collect background information, including demographics, logistical factors and charges, concerning juveniles under jurisdiction of adult court.
“This law ensures juveniles in adult court are not forgotten when it comes to collecting data,” Head said. “With this information, my colleagues and I will have more knowledge about youth in adult court and be better prepared to address issues related to this specific group.”
HEA 1228 also requires the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute to provide an annual report to the Commission on Improving the Status of Children in Indiana, which Head co-chairs.
