Here are five things you might want to know for Tuesday, June 12, 2018:

DEMOLITION WORK UNDERWAY IN DOWNTOWN LOGANSPORT

The building that used to house the Salin Bank drive-thru in downtown Logansport is being torn down. Demolition was supposed to begin yesterday but was postponed until today. You can read more about the project and what’s planned for the lot here.

THOMAS NAMED CITIZEN OF THE WEEK

Gabrielle McIntire Thomas, coach of the State Champion Pioneer Lady Panthers Softball team has been named this week’s Logansport Citizen of the Week. Mayor Dave Kitchell announced yesterday. In winning the championship, Pioneer became the first area school to win two state championships during the same academic year. The Panther football team won the state Class A title in November.

The Citizen of the Week is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes Logansport natives or residents who contribute to the community or are recognized for their achievements. Recipients receive a certificate of appreciation from the city and a $20 gift certificate.

IUK HOLDING OPEN HOUSE TONIGHT

Indiana University Kokomo will hold an open house tonight for its newly launched Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling program. Enrollment is currently underway for the first student cohort, which begins in August.

The open house is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, in the Main Building.

Graduates of the two-year program will fill a need for mental health care in north central Indiana.

The program is open to those with bachelor’s degrees in psychology, or who earned at least 15 credit hours in psychology while completing a bachelor’s degree in another field.

CIVIC PLAYERS MUSICAL SET FOR THIS WEEKEND AND NEXT

Civic Players of Logansport presents their June 2018 musical, “Into the Woods,” with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine.  Performance dates are June 15, 16, 22 and 23, at McHale Performing Arts Center on the Logansport High School campus.  All shows are at 7:30 pm, and all tickets are $15. Tickets may be purchased online at seatyourself.biz/civicplayersoflogansport, or from the Animal Hospital of Logansport or Eclypse Tanning &Trends, as well as at the McHale box office.
