Logan Pride 12’s Runners-up at Nationals

Last Updated on July 22, 2018 by cassnetwork

The Logan Pride 12u softball team came in second in the Great Lakes Nationals tournament held in Columbus, Indiana with over 100 teams from all over the country. The team entered bracket play as a four seed after three hard fought games in pool play. Dodging rainstorms all week long, the Pride started their run to the championship game on Saturday with the loser’s bracket having been cancelled and the tournament being shortened to single elimination. The Pride began play at 9:30 AM and won three games, two being back-to-back, before having about a half hour to prepare for the final in the abbreviated tourney. Four games in seven hours proved to be too much to physically and mentally overcome for the Pride as Softball One from Brownsburg won the National Championship in a hard fought contest.

In game one of Pool Play, the Pride fell to the Melrose Park Devils 9 to 3. In game two they beat the Indy Lightning 7 to 2. Game three was a close game, with the Pride falling to Cats Rose from Fishers 6 to 4. In tournament play, the Pride Beat Morris Elite 5 to 0. Game two was a comeback thriller with the Pride fighting back from a 6 run deficit to beat the Vipers from Louisville, KY 9 to 8 in a tie-breaker after turning three outs in a matter of minutes to get an opportunity to tie the game in the seventh inning. In game three, a rematch with the Cats, the Pride again came again with a close victory just squeaking out a win 4 to 3. The Pride shut down the Cats for a 1-2-3 inning in the sixth to give themselves a chance to take the lead after trailing much of the game, then after going up 4 to 3, closed the game out with more great defense in the bottom of the seventh. In the final game, the Pride were defeated 11 to 3 after struggling to get their bats going and dodging raindrops.

The girls played team softball all week long and worked hard to take the runner-up position in the National tournament. The future of Berry softball is a bright one!
