KOKOMO, Ind. – A new group of eight-week classes – many covered by the Indiana Workforce Ready Grant – is set to begin Oct. 15 at Ivy Tech Community College. Classes covered by the WRG are geared toward short-term programs that offer free tuition and fees for those who qualify, regardless of your income level.

“Oct. 1 is the deadline for admission to begin classes Oct. 15,” said Marcia Worland, vice chancellor for Enrollment Services, “and professional advisors in Ivy Tech’s Kokomo and Logansport campuses are ready to help students efficiently complete the enrollment and registration process.”

Student service and financial aid representatives are available to help students in the Kokomo Express Enrollment Center Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and in the Logansport center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. They can help with everything from submitting an application to getting answers to financial aid questions to registering for classes. Additional support will be on hand at both campuses Wednesday, Sept. 19, as part of a statewide Ivy Tech Express Enrollment Day.

Worland noted the Workforce Ready Grant is designed to remove financial barriers that may prevent Hoosiers from getting the training they need for a job in one of Indiana’s five high-demand sectors. These include advanced manufacturing, health and life sciences, information technology and business services, transportation and logistics, and building and construction.

“We encourage anyone interested in improving their job skills, and their ability to qualify for good-paying jobs now and in the future, to find out more about the Workforce Ready Grant,” Worland said. “Not only does it work to remove financial barriers. It supports short-term programs leading to high-value certificates that require as few as four courses to complete, helping to remove time as a barrier as well.”

Basic eligibility requirements for the WRG include being at least 18 years old, being an Indiana resident and a United States citizen or eligible resident, and having earned a high school diploma or equivalent but less than a college degree. A list of Ivy Tech programs eligible for the Workforce Ready Grant can be found at .

In addition to registering for classes, Express Enrollment Centers allow students to complete FYIvy, an online introduction to the college; get financial aid information; meet with an advisor, and sign up for orientation. Those who have not yet completed an assessment to determine appropriate class placement (required before meeting with an advisor) can do that as well. To meet the assessment requirement, students should bring SAT/ACT/PSAT scores and high school or college transcripts, or take the Accuplacer exam if needed.

Ivy Tech recommends that students come with a government-issued photo identification, 2016 tax information, and SAT/ACT/PSAT scores and high school or college transcripts. For more information, visit
