Logansport High School students involved in the My Community My Vision program have partnered with Logansport Re-Imagined and the Logansport Planning Department for a pop-up event in Heritage Park on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
As part of their work with Ball State University, the MCMV students envisioned a central gathering space downtown, and signage that includes a community message board for the Farmer’s Market.
Earlier this year, the Planning Department commissioned a rendering of a “re-imagined” Farmer’s Market Lot at the corner of 4th and Market Streets, while the MCMV students created their community message board.
As part of Logansport Re-Imagined Week, the students proposed using Heritage Park, which is located just east of the Farmer’s Market lot, to show additional ways the greenspace could be used. On Saturday, Sept. 29, they’re planning some pop-up events including a stage with entertainment, games and more.
The MCMV students were also very interested in encouraging people to use Logansport’s rivers, and created a map that includes river access points. The students worked with the Cass County Highway Department and Logansport Street Department to have signage installed along the rivers. The students have also worked with local businesses to create four special window clings that will be available Saturday morning, along with the maps.
Another project on which Logansport Re-Imagined and My Community My Vision are collaborating is a bottle cap collection. Their goal is to collect enough caps to work with the Cass County Recycling District to have a bench made from recycled caps placed in each of the five neighborhood districts. Caps can be brought to the Farmer’s Market Lot on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Look for details on additional collection sites in the near future.
The Farmer’s Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday with a variety of fresh, local foods.
Logansport Re-Imagined Neighborhood District 3 has organized a Downtown Block Party that runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. They encourage people to explore the downtown arts & design district while visiting unique shops and restaurants. More than 20 participating merchants will have orange balloons outside their stores. At each business you visit, you can pick up a piece of fabric to install on the newest community art project — an art collage at the Farmer’s Market Lot.
