Update on accident in Howard County

On Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at 2:01 a.m., deputies with the Howard County Sheriff Department responded to the intersection of US35 and 80 West, in Howard County, for a traffic crash involving injuries.  

Preliminary investigations indicate a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, being driven by Treundon Johnson, age 26 of Logansport, was traveling eastbound on US 35 in the area of 80 West crossed the center line and struck a 2011 Kia Soul being driven by Elizabeth Smith, age 18 of Logansport.  

Ms. Smith was transported to Community Howard Regional Health and then to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.  

Also in Ms. Smith’s vehicle were four juveniles’ ages 16 to 17 years of age. A male, age 16, of Logansport and a female, age 17, also from Logansport, were transported from the scene to St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. They later died from their injuries. The deceased have been identified as 16-year-old Auden Wayne Myers of Logansport and 17-year-old Haley Marie Begley also of Logansport.

Another male, age 17, of Logansport was transported to Community Howard Regional Health and then to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.  A female, age 16, was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo and then to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Johnson was transported to Community Howard Regional Health with minor injuries.  He was later transported to the Howard County Jail and charged with two counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death, a level 4 felony; three counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony; two counts of reckless homicide, a level 5 felony; two counts of driving while suspended causing death, a level 5 felony; and three counts of driving while suspended causing bodily injury, a level 6 felony.

This case is still under investigation by the Howard County Sheriff Department and the Howard County Coroner’s Office.  Anyone with further information about this incident please contact the Howard County Sheriff Department.
