Update on Dec. 21 accident in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, IND. – Early Friday evening, Dec. 21, at approximately 5:55 p.m., deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to a traffic accident involving a semi and two passenger cars that occurred on US 35, just north of Cass County Road 200 N.

At the time of the crash, the semi-tractor trailer, driven by Jerry Williams, 58, of LaCrosse, Ind. was traveling north on US 35. The semi-tractor trailer was following a passenger car driven by Mandy Conley of Medaryville, Ind. when Conley slowed in an attempt to avoid an animal in the roadway.

The semi-tractor trailer struck the rear of the vehicle. After the initial collision, the semi traveled into the southbound lane of traffic and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Briana Ademi, 17, of Monticello.

After being struck, Ademi’s vehicle traveled off the west side of the roadway and two teens were thrown from the vehicle.

Anahi Garcia, 17, and Faith Dold, 17, of Monticello, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Ademi and two other passengers were taken Logansport Memorial Hospital and were being treated for their injuries.

Conley and her two children, ages 2 and 13, were also transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital for their injuries.

The crash is still under investigation and by the Cass County Sheriff’s Department. Assisting at the scene were Cass County Sheriff units, Indiana State Police, Cass County Coroner, Prompt Ambulance Service, Cass County Fire District, Logansport Fire and Royal Center Fire.

UPDATE: The Monticello Herald Journal reports that Monticello United Methodist Church will be open again from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 to continue to help students and their families grieve.
