Ensfield named “Citizen of the Week”

A man who is among a dedicated group of people who have spent much of their lives walking through Logansport is recognized this week with a special city honor.

Mike Ensfield for years walked the routes of the United States Postal Service in Logansport. With a friendly greeting or a kind word, he went about his daily deliveries with concern for the people on his routes and often had kind words and well wishes for many people who appreciated his service not to them, but to the USPS.

“Mike recently retired and there are dozens of former postal patrons who miss seeing him regularly as well as knowing that he would look out for them,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said in announcing the honor. “Mike never lived in many of the neighborhoods he served, but he treated the people in them like neighbors. For some people who can’t get out or who spend much of their time at home, Mike was a welcome face and a friend. It was clear he cared about the people he served.”

Mike will receive a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant and a certificate from the Mayor’s Office. The Citizen of the Week is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes local natives, residents or former residents.
