The director of the local shelter for the homeless is a British native, but he calls Logansport home.

Jason Mitchell also has found a home helping the homeless in Logansport as director of the Emmaus Mission Center. His work in furthering the center’s mission has led to his recognition as this week’s Logansport Citizen of the Week.

“Jason didn’t start Emmaus, but he has put the center on solid ground and continues to make it a sustainable part of our social services network,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said Monday in announcing his selection. “His work goes beyond being an administrator in a building to truly serving people on the margins of our community who need a place to turn, particularly when they have no family locally to support them.”

Mitchell will receive a certificate from the Mayor’s Office and a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant. The Citizen of the Week program recognizes local residents, natives or former residents for their contributions and achievements.
