Hillis named 2019 Logansport High School Hall of Distinction Inductee

The 2019 Logansport High School Hall of Distinction Inductee is 1962 graduate, J. Stanley Hillis, M.D.

LHS looks forward to recognizing Dr. Hillis at the 148th Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Berry Bowl.

Dr. Hillis attended Indiana University Bloomington before attending Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He did his internship at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, then his residency at Indiana University Medical Center. Dr. Hillis was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1973 and the American Board of Cardiovascular Diseases in 1975. Dr. Hillis served as the Team Cardiologist for the Indianapolis Colts from 1984-2015. He was a founding member of The Care Group (Northside Cardiology, P.C.) in July 1975 and remains so today.

He also currently serves as the Clinical Assistant Professor at IU Medical Center. Dr. Hillis’ article, A Self-Assessment in Cardiology has been published countless times. Besides many other medical publications, Dr. Hillis wrote an abstract titled Comprehensive Cardiac Rehabilitation and Prevention Program at Northside Cardiology. St. Vincent Hospital honored Dr. Hillis with a “Distinguished Physician Award” in February 2002. Dr. Hillis was also honored in the article “Top Doctors” in Indianapolis Monthly in March 2001 and in their article The Specialists in November 2010.

In addition to being an outstanding cardiologist, Dr. Hillis is a talented jazz musician. He played in the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1997 and 1998. From 1998 through 2004, he played the National Anthem at Indiana Pacers games each season. He has made two Jazz CDs, “CardiAction” and “Heart of the Season”, as a fund-raising project for The American Heart Association. Dr. Hillis played in the ACC Band at the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions in 2004-2011 and 2013-2016.

Dr. Hillis is a member of the Bohemian Club of San Francisco.

Dr. Hillis and his wife Alice reside in Indianapolis and have two children, Stephanie and Matt, along with daughter-in-law Nancy and three grandchildren Ryan, Natalie, and Adrienne
