Many Logansport residents have taken advantage of supplies of 10-year lithium battery-powered smoke detectors.
Fire Chief Bernie Mittica told the Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety last week that while his department is running out of the supply it previously received from the Red Cross, he will request more from the Red Cross.
Mayor Dave Kitchell said the director of Indiana’s Department of Homeland Security also has provided the city with information on grant programs to secure more detectors for the city.
Earlier this year, the city instituted a new program linking detector installations with building permits.
