Logansport Memorial named a Top 100 Rural and Community Hospital again

Logansport Memorial Hospital (LMH) has been named one of the 2021 Top 100 Rural and Community Hospitals in the United States by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. This annual award is based upon the results of the Chartis Center’s Hospital Strength INDEX, which has grown to become the healthcare industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance.

The Chartis Center for Rural Health has been working with the INDEX framework for the past 11 years, in order to provide recognition and praise to rural hospitals and their communities. Logansport Memorial Hospital was one of five hospitals in Indiana to achieve this honor. Receiving the award in 2021 is the fifth time in six years that LMH has been named to the list.

Based entirely on public data and utilizing 36 independent indicators, the Chartis Center’s Hospital Strength INDEX assesses rural hospitals across eight pillars of performance, including market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge, and financial efficiency. The INDEX framework is widely used across the nation by independent rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints and state offices of rural health, which provide access to INDEX analytics through grant-funded initiatives.

Perry Gay, President and CEO of Logansport Memorial Hospital

“We are extremely proud to once again receive this award and prestigious recognition,” commented Perry Gay, President and CEO for LMH. “As a local, independent hospital serving counties across north central Indiana, we face unique challenges in providing care to the rural communities we serve. Our patients face barriers to receiving care that larger suburban and urban communities don’t always have to consider or overcome. Barriers like access to reliable transportation, issues with navigating the different parts of a healthcare system, gaps in insurance coverage, and the economics of a rural community all factor in to the challenges of providing rural healthcare that yields measurable, positive outcomes for our patients. We strive to continue growing and offering the advanced care and services that our patients need, with a focus on their overall experience and a coordination of their care to give them the best possible health outcomes.”

He went on to say, “That coordination of care is part of our continued commitment to excellence, brought to life by the exceptional physicians and staff that we are fortunate to have here at Logansport Memorial. Without them and the work that they do, we would not have received this award. I am grateful for the quality care that they provide each and every day to our patients and community.”

“The Top 100 program continues to recognize strategies and innovation for delivering higher quality care and better outcomes within rural communities,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “We are delighted to be able to spotlight the efforts of facilities like Logansport Memorial Hospital through the INDEX framework.”
