(LOGANSPORT) – Things are starting to take shape at The Junction in Logansport. Planet Fitness, the first tenant in the newly renovated space, will host a Grand Opening on Tuesday, March 30. Mayor Chris Martin will take part in a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m.

“I’m a proud member of Planet Fitness myself,” boasts Mayor Martin. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Planet Fitness and thank them for choosing the City of Logansport!”

Planet Fitness opened inside the old Sears store in the former Logansport Mall on March 1st. It marks the 20th location for co-owner Alex Baker. “We’re really excited about celebrating this opening with the people of Logansport,” he says. “We weren’t sure what to expect opening in the midst of a pandemic, but the city has really embraced us. We feel their positive energy.”

Tuesday’s celebration will include a food truck with free food from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Free Black Card memberships will be raffled off every hour and membership enrollment fees will be just $1.00.

In other news, Sulai Hospitality has upgraded what was planned as a Hampton Inn by Hilton to a Home2 Suites by Hilton on the former J.C. Penney site. The extended stay hotel will include studio and one-bedroom suites complete with a kitchen and workspace. Amenities will include complimentary Wi-Fi and hot breakfasts.

“This brand has proven itself to be successful even during the pandemic,” says Mitesh Patel, director of Sulai Hospitality. “Plus, with all the industries in Logansport and the surrounding area, this just feels like a better fit.”

The Home2 Suite by Hilton will be a larger investment than the previous Hampton Inn by Hilton and new financing is planned with a local bank in Logansport. Patel hopes to break ground this summer.

The Junction is being developed by Park Development, LLC, owner of 3900 E Market Street LLC, a Chicago-based real-estate developer. Design plans for the open-air retail center call for nearly 144,000 square feet of retail space.
