NORTH WEBSTER, INDIANA – Appearing at the Kosciusko County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner in North Webster, Indiana, on Thursday, June 3, Pete Seat announced his campaign for the Republican nomination for Indiana State Treasurer.

“Being the Chief Investment Officer of the State of Indiana, there is a perception that the Treasurer spends all day on the phone with a broker buying and selling stocks,” Seat said in launching his campaign before an audience of more than 200 fellow Hoosier Republicans including federal and statewide elected officials. “But at its core this is a role that promotes freedom, prosperity, safety and capitalism through a broad and diversified portfolio of responsibilities that touch millions of Hoosier lives every day.”

He added, “This role is not for a dispassionate money manager. The job of State Treasurer is for someone with a passion for the office and a heart for service. It’s a role for someone with a vision for how we best invest in Indiana’s future and empower Hoosiers to plan for the best and prepare for the worst.”

A born and bred Hoosier and only child of immigrant parents, Pete Seat is currently a vice president at Bose Public Affairs Group where he has developed and executed comprehensive communications and grassroots advocacy strategies focused on public relations and coalition building for local issue campaigns, trade associations and Fortune 200 companies. In this role he specializes in crisis communications, brand management and executive media training.

Previously Pete served as a spokesman and communications strategist for the Indiana Republican Party, Governor Eric Holcomb’s 2016 campaign and former U.S. Senator Dan Coats’ 2010 campaign. He also served as deputy assistant press secretary to former President George W. Bush in the West Wing of The White House where he worked alongside press secretaries Tony Snow and Dana Perino and logged thousands of miles aboard Air Force One. A noted political commentator and analyst, Pete’s published work has appeared nationally in POLITICO, CNN.com and Newsweek; monthly in the Indianapolis Star, Northwest Indiana Times and a collection of syndicated outlets across Indiana; and he has appeared on FOX News, NewsMax, CNN and MSNBC more than 100 times combined in addition to authoring the book, The War on Millennials.

“I intend to solidify the gains of Treasurer Kelly Mitchell’s outstanding tenure in office and accelerate the office’s already lightning-fast momentum by exploring innovative ways of doing the job and spreading the good news,” Seat said.

Among his plans for the office are to:

  • Vigorously Support Efforts to Increase the Age of Eligibility for ABLE Accounts, savings accounts for disabled Americans, from 26 to 46;
  • Work with Employers to Further Implement Contribution Matches for College Choice 529 Accounts;
  • Diligently Strengthen Cybersecurity Efforts to Safeguard Taxpayer Investments;
  • Strategically Target Capital Investment Opportunities to Grow Our Economy, Create Jobs and Expand the State and Local Tax Base through the Indiana Bond Bank.

Seat also announced that State Representative Ethan Manning (R-Logansport) and Dubois County Treasurer Kitty Merkley, who also serves as Dubois County Republican Party Chair and is the incoming president of the Indiana County Treasurer’s Association, will be campaign co-chairs.

“Pete Seat represents a generation of Hoosiers who are stepping up to serve across the state,” said Manning. “Through his travels to all 92 Indiana counties, and his work with Republican candidates and officeholders at every level, Pete has demonstrated to me and others his conservative values, his grasp of the issues people care about, and his ability to bring people together to get important work done.  Pete knows what it takes to be an effective leader as State Treasurer and he has a unique perspective on the importance of advancing the State Treasurer’s office in a way that connects with Hoosiers.”

Merkley added, “I have seen in Pete an infectious passion for service that is displayed in everything he does. Whether it’s advising the Republican leaders who have led Indiana over the past decade or debating Democrats on national television, Pete Seat is always focused on how policy impacts individuals’ lives. His experience will allow him to work effectively with other elected officials at every level and educate the public on the many ways the Treasurer’s office impacts every Hoosier.”

Approximately 1,800 Hoosier Republicans will choose their party’s nominee for State Treasurer at a State Convention slated for June 2022.
