Val Monroe Clark, 85, of rural Walton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at home, surrounded by the love of his family at his side.
Born December 23, 1936, in Riverside, California, he was the son of the late Valton and Pauline Blanche (Pool) Clark.
On April 21, 1971, in Sturgis, Michigan married the love of his life, Colleen (Holley) Denny Clark, who preceded him in death on February 17, 2009.
As a 17-year-old, Val followed his heart to Germany after meeting a girl. He tried enlisting in Germany at the U.S. Marine Corps base and they told him to come back when he was 18, and so he did. He was proud to be a Marine. Val was also proud that he spoke German fluently and spent many years there serving in the military. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. When he was honorably discharged and came back to Indiana, he continued serving his community, this time as a member of the Cass County Civil Defense – REACT team.
After working in the meat-packaging industry most of his life, first at Wilson Foods and then Tyson Meats, Val retired.
Everything revolved around family in Val’s world – they were his #1. He certainly loved his grandbabies and great-grandbabies.
He enjoyed fishing and loved to bowl. For ten years, he had many fun times on the Father-Son bowling league. He loved his dog, Trigger – a little min pin, as well as all the family dogs throughout his life. If you close your eyes and try to imagine Heaven’s scene, picture Val and Colleen dancing together once again on those streets of gold.
Val is survived by one son, Bud (Kathy) Goodwin and one daughter, Pauline “Angel” Harmon; eleven grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchidlren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Bobbie Jean Clark, Jimmie Clark and Lajuane Clark. .
There will be no services.
